Succesful EIC Workshop on Markets in Central and South Eastern Europe

EIC held a workshop with high-ranking speakers in Vienna on how to succeed in the CEE/SEE region.

On October 19, as part of its Autumn General Assembly, EIC ran a succesful half-day workshop in Vienna, discussing the challenges in contruction markets in Central and South Eastern Europe with high-ranking stakeholders. 

Romanian State Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure Septimiu Buzasu and Araco Vice President Michael Stanciu, focussed on the road infrastructure in Romania. While the State Secretary outlined how PPP projects could be successfully implemented in the sector, Mr. Stanciu pointed out the general opportunities for contractors in the coming years. 

Stefan Zotti, Member of Cabinet Commissioner Johannes Hahn, outlined how the EU Regional Policy can serve as a key driver for infrastructure investment  in the CEE and SEE regions. EIB director Tilman Seibert and Pinsent Masons partner Lawrence Davies spoke on potential project risks, in regard to financing and legal terms.

Wilhelm Reisman of iC Consulenten presented a number of theses on opportunities the region can offer and where the dangers may lie. He was followed by Porr CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss who shared his long-standing experience with large infrastructure projects in Austria's neighbour countries to the east.

The speeches where followed by a lively panel discussion, moderated by VIBOE President and Strabag CEO Hans Peter Haselsteiner, with many contributions from the audience.
