EIC 2013 Statistics: Turnover remains on high level, but below all-time high

International turnover of EIC's member companies declined slightly in 2013 to €163.0 billion, down 3 % compared to the 2012 all-time high of €167.6 billion.

EIC's member federations from 13 European countries reported the figures of close to 178 member companies for 2013.

The decline is due to a drop in turnover in Europe and North America, where business was down 8 % year-on-year. Growth continued, however, in Central and South America with a rise of 16% after rising 14% the previous year.

Business for European contractors in the Middle East recovered in 2013, growing 17% after having declined 10% in 2012. Turnover in Africa was marginally higher in 2013 (up 2%), while declining slightly in Asia/Oceania/Australia (down 1%).

Looking ahead to the full year 2014, the level of new contracts suggests that turnover will remain on a high level, possibly surpassing the 2012 record result. At €183.8 billion the volume of new contracts clearly indicates a further increase in turnover.

However, while new contracts suggest the markets in the Middle East and Africa will boom this year, the markets in Europe and North America could face a continued downward trend. The level of new contracts in South and Central America also indicate that growth is slowing down in this region.
