EIC attends Convention of Asian-Pacific Construction Federation

Upon invitation of OCAJI, the Overseas Construction Association of Japan, EIC attended the 42nd Convention of the International Federation of Asian & Western Pacific Contractors' Associations (IFAWPCA) in Tokyo.

The event, held on 16-19 November, was attended by some 750 contractors from the 17 IFAWPCA members as well as by representatives from the Asian Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

At the request of the organisers, EIC presented the European perspective on the conference theme of “Partnership and Sustainability”. EIC Director Frank Kehlenbach gave an overview of the broad spectrum of the business activities of EIC member companies with a particular focus on integrated project delivery models, such as Public-Private Partnerships, Partnering and Early Contractor Involvement.

Sander Dekkers, Manager Sustainability at van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors, set out the mega-trends in global construction from the viewpoint of the European dredging industry and presented some of the ingenious solutions by marine engineering.
Bilateral Meetings with OCAJI and other Asian federations

EIC representatives further met with the Presidents of several IFAWPCA members, for instance from Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia, and were invited to participate in the meeting of IFAWPCA’s Contracts Committee in order to exchange experience on FIDIC contracts. During bilateral talks with the President of OCAJI, Toru Shiraishi, President of Obayashi Corporation, and OCAJI Chief Executive Director, Yoshihiro Yamaguchi, EIC suggested to revitalise the bilateral talks between European and Japanese international contractors.
